European-only alternative to Webex.
Webex is the meeting platform of Cisco Systems, Inc., a US company. Binadit Meet is the small, direct alternative: meetings from your Workspace calendar, on our own servers in the Netherlands, with guests joining in the browser without an account.
- Provider
- Webex
- Headquarters
- San Jose, CA
- Jurisdiction
- United States
- Legal regime
- CLOUD Act, FISA 702
"EU region" is not sovereignty. Four questions decide it.
Data residency tells you where the bits sit. Sovereignty tells you which legal system can compel access. The answer must hold on all four - or the stack is not sovereign.
- Residency
-
Where is the data physically stored?
Not "in the cloud" - which datacenter, in which country, under which jurisdiction.
- Subprocessors
-
Who else is in your data path?
Every vendor that touches the data: the CDN, the email relay, the error tracker, the analytics pipe.
- Jurisdiction
-
Whose laws can compel disclosure?
A US-headquartered provider falls under FISA 702 and the CLOUD Act - even when the bits sit in Frankfurt.
- Key custody
-
Who actually holds the encryption keys?
If the cloud provider holds both the data and the keys, the data is readable by them - regardless of any DPA.
Fails on jurisdiction and key custody.
EU bits, US-headquartered parent, US subprocessors in the default path, provider-managed keys.
Passes on all four.
EU-hosted on EU-headquartered infrastructure. Zero US subprocessors in the default path. Customer-held or EU-KMS keys. Listed by name in your Article 28 DPA.
Why teams are exiting Webex
Webex is often part of a larger Cisco contract, which is why its jurisdiction was rarely a decision anybody took on its own. Webex is a service of Cisco Systems, Inc., a US company, so using it is a transfer of personal data to the United States. That is lawful today on the strength of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or of standard contractual clauses, and both lean on the same question: whether US law protects the data of Europeans well enough. The Court of Justice of the EU has answered no twice, and an appeal against the current framework is pending there. Separately, the US CLOUD Act obliges a US provider to produce data under its control wherever it is stored, so a European data region does not settle it. With Binadit Workspace there is no transfer to a third country, so there is nothing to monitor.
Webex, and what replaces it in Binadit Workspace
Binadit Meet is the meeting part of Binadit Workspace. It does one thing: video meetings that start from your calendar and that anybody can join in a browser.
Scheduled meetings
- What we run instead
- Binadit Meet: start a meeting from your calendar or with one click. The link goes into the calendar invitation automatically.
- Engineering note
- Only a Workspace account can start a meeting. Guests wait until you arrive.
Guests from outside your company
- What we run instead
- Guests join in the browser, without an account and without installing anything.
- Engineering note
- Available in the 24 official languages of the EU.
Where the meeting runs
- What we run instead
- On our own servers in the Netherlands, based on the open source Jitsi.
- Engineering note
- Meet never sees your password: you sign in through your own mail server.
Webex Calling, Webinars and room devices
- What we run instead
- Not replaced.
- Engineering note
- Meet is video meetings. If you depend on telephony, large webinars or room hardware, tell us before you decide.
How we migrate off Webex
There is nothing to copy out of Webex. Moving means that new meetings start somewhere else.
-
Before the move
Workspace is set up for your domain
Meet and Book are part of Binadit Workspace and use the same login as your mail and calendar. We set up the accounts, and move your mail first if it is still somewhere else.
-
Side by side
New appointments start in Workspace
New invitations carry a Meet link. What is already planned in Webex stays there until it has taken place.
-
Switch day
The old subscription ends
Recurring meetings get a new invitation, links on your website and in mail signatures are replaced, and you cancel what you no longer need.
Binadit Workspace is quoted per company, because the number of mailboxes, the storage and a possible server of your own differ each time. Ask for a demo and you get a quote with it.

Binadit Workspace is more than this one piece
Mail, calendar, files, documents, meetings and scheduling work together and share one login. These are the other pieces.
- Mail and calendar A mailbox with calendar and contacts on your own domain, in the webmail or in the mail program you already use. Shared mailboxes, two-step verification, and SPF, DKIM and DMARC prepared per domain.
- Drive Your files on a server in the Netherlands, synchronised with your computer. Team folders, sharing links that expire, versions and a trash.
- Receive A page on your own address where clients hand you confidential files without an account. Encrypted in their browser, deleted after the retention period. Included with Drive.
- Office Documents, spreadsheets and presentations in the browser, edited together, on files that stay on Drive.
- Book A booking page for every mailbox. Customers pick a time, and the appointment lands in your calendar with a Meet link.
- Northmail Our own free mail program for macOS and Windows, laid out like classic Outlook. Works with Workspace, Exchange and Gmail.
- Why this matters now The article: your email is GDPR-compliant today. Will it still be next year?
- binadit.work Binadit Workspace itself: what is included, the comparison with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Proton, and the downloads.
